Social Media Manager, Kinship

Location: Remote (DMV preferred)

Type: Part-Time (~10 hours/week)

Compensation: $2,000/month retainer

Kinship is a platform built on a simple premise: the right introduction at the right moment changes everything. We connect vetted founders, investors, and mentors in a trusted, invite-only environment — one where relationships are cultivated, not transacted.

We are not a directory, a deal-flow feed, or a networking app. Kinship is the connective infrastructure that enables meaningful collaboration and value creation.

We are early-stage, focused, and deliberate in how we build. We are seeking a Social Media Manager who can ensure our public voice reflects that same level of clarity and discipline.

About the role

The Social Media Manager is responsible for Kinship’s public voice. This role determines what we communicate, how we communicate it, and what we choose not to communicate.

You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, owning Kinship’s social presence end-to-end. You will work closely with the Founder and the Community and Operations Director to translate real activity on the platform into content that is relevant, thoughtful, and aligned with our audience.

This is a strategic and executional role compressed into a part-time commitment. You are not executing against a predefined plan; you are building and refining the system itself.

Key responsibilities

Own social presence

  • Develop and manage Kinship’s primary presence on LinkedIn, with selective expansion to other platforms where appropriate.
  • Create and maintain a content calendar aligned with platform activity and organizational priorities.
  • Draft, schedule, publish, and monitor posts end-to-end.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine content strategy based on performance and audience response.

Develop voice and positioning

  • Define and maintain a clear, consistent voice that reflects Kinship’s ethos: direct, thoughtful, and specific.
  • Avoid low-signal content patterns such as engagement bait, generic commentary, or performative positioning.
  • Ensure all content aligns with the expectations and standards of founders, investors, and experienced operators.

Translate platform activity into content

  • Work with internal stakeholders to identify meaningful moments, patterns, and outcomes within the Kinship platform.
  • Convert those insights into high-quality content that reflects real activity rather than surface-level narratives.
  • Highlight introductions, member stories, and ecosystem dynamics in a way that is substantive and credible.

Audience development

  • Grow awareness of Kinship among relevant audiences, including founders, investors, and mentors.
  • Prioritize reach and engagement quality over follower counts or vanity metrics.
  • Track performance and report on meaningful indicators of impact.

Brand stewardship

  • Exercise judgment over what should and should not be published.
  • Maintain a high standard for clarity, tone, and relevance.
  • Provide feedback and push back when proposed content does not meet the required standard.

What success looks like

Success in this role is defined by signal. Kinship’s presence should consistently reach and resonate with the right audience — founders, investors, and ecosystem participants who understand and value what we are building.

Over time, the content should reflect the platform itself: thoughtful, selective, and credible. Growth should come from relevance and alignment, not volume or amplification tactics.

Ideal candidate profile

The ideal candidate combines strong writing ability with editorial judgment and strategic thinking. You understand how high-signal audiences consume content and can produce work that earns attention without relying on superficial tactics.

You are comfortable operating independently, making decisions about content and positioning without constant oversight, and refining your approach based on results.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of experience managing social media for a brand, publication, or organization.
  • Strong writing skills, particularly for LinkedIn.
  • Demonstrated editorial judgment and ability to shape narratives.
  • Familiarity with LinkedIn’s dynamics, including content distribution and audience engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities within a limited time commitment.
  • Understanding of founder, investor, or professional audiences and how they evaluate content.

Preferred

  • Experience in startup, venture, or community-driven environments.
  • Existing network or presence within relevant professional ecosystems.
  • Basic design capabilities (e.g., Figma, Canva) for simple visual assets.
  • Experience launching or building a social presence from an early stage.
  • Familiarity with AI tools to support content development.

Why this role matters

This role is responsible for ensuring that Kinship’s public presence is aligned with its core principles and resonates with the audience it is designed to serve.
